The First Look at the Genesis Scottish Open

A strong field of world-class golfers is heading to Scotland this week for the Genesis Scottish Open. American Cameron Tringale is the early leader after a course record-equalling 61 at The Renaissance Club.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is joined by a cast of OWGR’s best players in the top 11 including Rory McIlroy, Patrick Cantlay, Viktor Hovland, Matt Fitzpatrick, Xander Schauffele, and Max Homa.

What is a First Look?

The first look is a newer wedding day tradition that allows couples to see each other before their ceremony. It is an intimate moment for the couple that can be done in a secret location away from the prying eyes of guests and photographers.

You might be wondering how it works. Basically, the photographer will set up an area where you and your fiancé will be together for the first time on your big day. This is often in a place with a beautiful background so your photos will be amazing.

First look photos can take up a good portion of your post-ceremony photo timeline, which may mean you don’t get to enjoy the delicious cocktail hour appetizers you chose or sneak in extra family portraits. However, this is one of the few things about your day that you can control and work around to fit the needs of your wedding. This is why you should weigh up the pros and cons of looking for the first time to decide what’s right for you.

Why Should I Get a First Look?

The Scottish Open gets a big boost this week with Genesis as the event’s title sponsor and co-sanctioning with the PGA Tour, counting towards the Race to Dubai in partnership with Rolex and FedExCup points. The tournament is played at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland, and the winner will earn 500 FedExCup points.

The field features an impressive cast of golfers, with 20 of the top 30 players in the OWGR playing this week. The field is led by Scottie Scheffler and is completed by a strong group of PGA Tour managers such as Rory McIlroy, Patrick Cantlay, Viktor Hovland, Xander Schauffele and Jordan Spieth.

NBC Sports and ESPN+ are live on site in North Berwick to capture all the action this week, with coverage starting at 3 a.m. ET on Thursday. The streams will alternate, with one following two Focus Groups and the other containing one Focus Group. Additionally, a bonus feed will be launched when the initial Focus Groups have completed their rounds.

Where Should I Look First?

The Genesis Scottish Open is a links tournament in North Berwick, Scotland that aims to attract top talent from around the world as a co-sanctioned PGA Tour and DP World Tour event. Each of the first three editions required a rematch, with Xander Schauffele winning the title last year after defeating Kurt Kitayama by just one stroke.

This year’s field includes major champions Jordan Spieth, Shane Lowry, and Adam Scott. They join a full line-up of PGA Tour stars led by the world’s best Scottie Scheffler and fellow prestigious winners Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Thomas and Ryder Cup player Tommy Fleetwood. Defending champion Xander Schauffele and US Open winner Wyndham Clark round out the prestigious field.

While there is a lot of excitement surrounding this golf tournament, it is not without its challenges. The grungy links course is a challenge for even the best players in the game, and scoring can be unpredictable.

How long should I have a first look?

If you’re planning to look for the first time, 20-25 minutes is a good time to get most of your groups out of the way before the ceremony. This allows you to relax and enjoy the moment as much as possible.

Jenneh and Joseph chose First Look before their wedding in Denver to take more intimate photos with their family. Their first look took place at Denver’s Union Station, where they had a quiet moment together to enjoy the city that made them fall in love.

Last year Xander Schauffele continued his mid-season hot streak by winning the Genesis Scottish Open. This year, golf fans can watch him compete at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland. You can find betting odds for the tournament by visiting the best sportsbooks.
