Secret Invasion – First Three Episodes Streaming on Hulu

The first three episodes of Marvel’s sci-fi thriller Secret Invasion are streaming on Hulu. The Nick Fury-centric drama will reach its Episode 6 finale next Wednesday on Disney Plus.

The shape-shifting Skrulls, introduced in 2019’s Captain Marvel, can perfectly simulate any human they choose. And they are infiltrating every level of society. It’s up to Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to stop them.

Awakening

The first episode of ‘Secret Invasion’ sets the tone for what appears to be an exciting spy drama with the fate of humanity at stake. The characters are well acted and the story provides many twists and turns, especially when Gravik’s ruthless schemes are revealed.

This episode also contains a scene that was brutal but also showed the willingness of the clandestine Skrulls to go above and beyond to fulfill their mission on Earth. They kidnapped a random person, put them in a room that changed their appearance and took over their memories. Then they cast it from the original person.

This is the only time we’ve seen this kind of brutality on Marvel TV and it makes for a riveting moment that really puts into context how dangerous these shapeshifters are. But it’s hard to foster the suspense and intrigue that this series aspires to be when most of its twists revolve around underdeveloped new characters or events that happened off-screen.

Promises

If the title didn’t give it away, the first episode of ‘Secret Invasion’ revolves around a conspiracy of shape-shifting Skrulls who are taking over the Earth. The Marvel Cinematic Universe series, led by writer Kyle Bradstreet and director Ali Salim, takes inspiration from the comic book event of the same name. This time, however, it is not the Avengers who will be called upon to save humanity from a homeless Skrull faction led by Princess Veranke and her new husband Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir and Emilia Clarke).

Instead, we get Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), who promises a group of Skrulls led by Talos that he will help them find a homeworld. The show also brings back Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes, Martin Freeman as CIA agent Everett Ross, and Killian Scott as Thunderbolts leader Korath the Purifier. Olivia Colman is a true standout as the cheeky MI6 spy Sonya Falsworth, who has her own ulterior motives.

Betrayed

In the run-up to next Wednesday’s series finale of Marvel’s alien infiltration thriller, fans can watch the first three episodes on Hulu for a limited time. The episodes, “Resurrection,” “Promises” and “Betrayed,” are now airing Thursday, August 17. The Nick Fury series stars Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Cobie Smulders, Martin Freeman, Don Cheadle and Kingsley Ben-Adir, with Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, Dermollian Scott Mulro and Dermollian Mulro serving as additional cast members. It is directed by Ali Selim and executive produced by Kevin Feige, Jonathan Schwartz, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum and Kyle Bradstreet, with Jennifer L. Booth and Allana Williams serving as head writers.

Based on the 2008 comic book event, Secret Invasion sees Fury trying to prevent an alien invasion from happening right under everyone’s noses. Instead of calling in the Avengers, he gathers a group of his oldest and closest allies, including James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) as War Machine. The team must deal with the shape-shifting Skrulls who have spent decades establishing sleeper agents posing as some of the world’s most powerful heroes, including SHIELD itself.

Final

The final episode of Secret Invasion has not been released yet, but it is expected to be much darker than the previous installments of the series. Especially since the show’s main characters — including Samuel L. Jackson’s Fury, Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill, and Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos — were all revealed to be Skrull imposters by the end of the last episode.

It’s a major twist, and one that would turn the Marvel universe upside down if it actually happened. Despite the fact that shapeshifters have been replacing superheroes on a hidden level for years, and most of them were only discovered by the Avengers in this episode, it’s still a massively shocking development. It also makes the eventual battle against Gravik more urgent.
